Me. Me! ME! (Waving hand frantically to attract attention....)
That describes me perfectly. I balk at the utter implausibility of a
conspiracy which is at the same time so all-encompassing that it can
make Tom Veil's entire life vanish in the time it takes him to visit
the bathroom in a restaurant AND which cannot pry relatively simple
information out of a man they've successfully confined to a mental
hospital (using drugs, torture, threats against loved ones, or simple
sleep deprivation).

I was responding to a statement that, if electricity vanished, she
would go live on a reservation and hunt for her food.
I was pointing out that she wouldn't be the only one with that idea,
and that there are vastly more people living on this continent than
the land can support without an extensive farming and transportation
infrastructure. 250,000,000 people trying to live off the land on a
continent which has nowhere near as much wilderness (and corresponding
amounts of game) as it did a few centuries ago (when probably less
than ONE million indians roamed it) is a recipe for mass starvation.

Really? As I understand it, there hasn't been a single new reactor
ordered or licensed in something like twenty years. I suspect the
industry has been fighting to get existing plants online, to try to
recoup some of the costs of building them. I could be wrong, though.

Magnetic containment of the plasma. (By the by, just because we have no metals

you better believe that the skin on that baby would be hot enough to melt most

I am well aware of the fact that they're all electromagnetic radiation. My
point was, however, that we did not use gamma radiation in conventional
microwave ovens. (If we could produce gamma at will by the flip of a switch
there are a LOT of toys that we could build a heck of a lot easier than the way
we build 'em now...)

Bullpuckey. No tech means most everyone dies. Period. The country cannot
support 250+ million people without high tech. Throw away the high tech, and
some 240+ million people will HAVE to die. And in the crash that would follow,
bloody near everyone else would likeley die as well.

Right. So instead of being vaporized (which is at least quick and relatively
