Cancer *IS* being passed from generation to generation!
(well, not in the strictest sense, but researchers are
uncovering genes which are common to sufferers of
particular types of cancer exclusively)

perhaps they have... and perhaps woman as a general species are becoming more
and more independant and assertive as they evolve. my entire argument is based
on the fact that throughout history, probably almost to the beginning of man (no
matter what your religion), woman have been child-bearers. now, i'm not trying
to be sexist (although reading my last message i can understand how you might
feel that way), but that's the way it was. in fact, it wasn't until quite
recently that women began to take on some of the roles of their male
counterparts. so the way i see it, you can't destroy that much evolved instinct
in just a few decades... most likely, it will take quite a long time.

i agree, assertiveness is far superior to raw agression in the long term.
however, in order to gain the respect of your crew so that they will trust your
assertations, you must show some degree of fearlessness, true compassion, and
strong will.
i agree with your last paragraph, and feel that with all the newness of an
unexplored quadrant, couldnt they come up with something better? i did like the
most recent episode featuring the silver-alloy robots, however.

yes... alot of people (especially women) would like to change centuries of
evolution in just a few decades, but it's not so easy. my personal work as a
tatoo artist has proven to me that the female sex is striving to the extreme to
become male. sometimes i laugh... but i always give them their tat's. i don't
expect to change anything, mr. sullivan, but i will propose to you this: coming
soon we are going to see a change. i see it happening every day. things are
losing their fast-paced "lets all be men" attitude, and women are beginning to
realize what they really want (ooooh.. i can just hear the frantic pounding of
girls at keyboards everywhere, heh heh).. i'll leave it at that, so as not to
stray too far off the Trek subject.

I'm curious if there's an echo dedicated to discussion of nuclear
energy and its alleged risks. If there isn't such an echo, maybe
an sf fan could start a NUCLEAR_RISK echo - there seems to be plenty
of interest in the science, not just the fiction, of this topic.
