"NOWHERE MAN," which prompted this discussion:
Hello Chris...
CM> Okay, I give up. I (pardon me) have never heard of the show
CM> "Nowhere Man" Is it on Fox or one of the other cable stations.
CM> Everyone talks about it so fondly, I'd like to take a look at it.
"Nowhere Man" is a UPN show, so check your local listings for the UPN
station. It normally is scheduled for 9 pm (Eastern time) on Monday
evenings, right after Star Trek: Voyager.
Let us know what you think of it, OK?
Later...

Paragon Trekday (mini-con?)
Sunday, January 21, 1996
Coronado Room, Palmer Auditorium/Austin, Texas
B/B-
Teri and I attended another one-afternoon STAR TREK convention
in Austin. "So here's another one of Gary's negative con reviews?" you ask.
"So what ABOUT it?"
I defiantly answer, "So this one was pretty decent and --BIG SURPRISE
-- it wasn't a Creation ordeal, THAT'S so what!"
Apparently, Paragon (any connection to the cable company and/or
film distributor?) just started its convention rounds, as the cramped
location and the one set of dealer's tables (its own) made crystal clear.
Austin's Palmer Auditorium's Coronado Room, situated in the auditorium's
sub-level, contained about 300 seats. Some of the mini-con's ushers
told us the convention was located in this small area because the event
heads didn't know how many would come to its Austin debut. Needless to say,
Trekday lured a standing-room-only crowd of 600 or more. That wasn't bad
considering it cost $12.00 for each person at the door with only one
merchandiser selling TREK-ish goodies.
Although de Lancie was supposed to speak at 1:30 or 1:45 p.m.
(depending upon whether you paid attention to the programs tacked onto
a couple of posts inside the small lecture room or the nameless emcee),
he didn't show up until 2 p.m. He first seemed a bit tense, but soon
relaxed and gave a good question-and-answer show, as only "Q" can do!
His presentation was cut into two parts by his first autograph session, which
was hurried and left no room for fan chit-chat but which was also very well
conducted into three lines according to ticket colour (red, white and blue).
Some of his two-and-a-half-hour Q&A points included the following:
***************************************************************************
::::MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING ENABLED!::::STOP READING OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR
PEACE!::::YOU KNOW THE DRILL!::::
****************************************************************************
* de Lancie's "Q" character will appear February on VOYAGER in an
episode titled "Death Wish." The plot will involve "Q" offering Captain
Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) a chance for the _Voyager_ to return home.
"If you [Janeway] do something for me," de Lancie hinted with a twinkle,
"I'll do something for YOU." He also said that viewers will get another
view of the Q-Continuum, and there will be a scene with Earth outside of
Janeway's cabin window. "Phhhhttt! Easy come, easy go."
* Among de Lancie's other projects for this year will be a
collaboration with Leonard Nimoy. He offered no other hints about it
other than he hopes it'll be "wildly successful."
* One of the chief reasons for the failure of his United Paramount
Network show LEGEND was that "UPN is not really a full-fledged network."
Even though UPN produced about 12 episodes, the show was cancelled after
three were aired. de Lancie added that VOYAGER is still UPN's biggest
draw with ratings numbering around seven million viewers.
* Although it may not have at first appeared so, his "Q" villain
grew during TNG's seven years. "In the beginning, "Q" was there to make
the hero look good. As the years went by, by the time of the final
episode, he was sprouting the pop psychology of the 90's."
* Periodically in his presentation, de Lancie criticized the
mass media's effect on theatre and culture in general becuase
television, radio and even computers are devised to constantly
entertain their audiences. He attributed this as another
reason why LEGEND failed to reach more viewers. "People go to their
clickers when they're challenged . . . I think there's a problem with
people wanting to be entertained all the time--24 hours a day."
de Lancie further predicted that the future of theatre was in
jeopardy since "it demands people go to it and pay attention" while
movie and TV audiences talk during the shows.
* So far, his favorite "Q" episode is TNG's "Tapestry," even
though the program's "heaven" sequences could have been better
filmed.
After his lecture, a smaller autograph session for those missing the
first signings concluded the mini-con. While this event wasn't the best
convention ever, it was much better than most of the Creation cons we've
attended. Notwithstanding the small, crowded location, Trekday deserved a
B or B- for this first effort getting a first-rate fan favorite as a guest.

I'm a big fan of "weird" tv shows and am trying to make a list of
shows that fit. I've tried to list the years they aired and how many
seasons (or seasons so far). Any corrections welcome.
So far I have the following:
The Twilight Zone (195?-196?) [??]
The Outer Limits (1963?-1964?) [2]
The Prisoner (1968-1969) [2]
The Night Stalker (1974?-1975?) [1?]
Tales From The Darkside (198?-198?) [??]
The [new] Twilight Zone (198?-198?) [??]
Monsters (198?-198?) [??]
Friday The 13th: The Series (198?-198?) [??]
Twin Peaks (1990-1991) [2]
Tales From The Crypt (199?- ?) [??]
The X-Files (1993- ) [3]
The [new] Outer Limits (1994- ) [2]
VR.5 (1995) [1]
Nowhere Man (1995- ) [1]
American Gothic (1995- ) [1]
Of those, I've seen only a few episodes of The Prisoner, and none of
TNS or TFTC, but I love all the rest. I'm tempted to add a current
personal favorite, Due South, but although it does have occasional
supernatural things like people talking to dead relatives, I guess it
doesn't really fit with all the rest.
Anyway, what other "weird" tv shows are out there?

Hehe! It's OK. I was just curious about the development in this field.
I haven't even heard the expression since the releasing of "The Lawnmower-
