Geez, it gets WORSE.
If anyone's going to save Doctor Who now, it will have to be the BBC
and/or an American syndication distributor.
The word came in from Fox this morning - Doctor Who BOMBED in the
ratings. It was their lowest rated Movie of the Week for the May sweeps
period, and one of the lowest rated Fox broadcasts overall for that same
period. There were numerous cartoons that topped it ratings-wise.
As you probably know if you read my earlier diatribe about ratings
and how seriously American networks and distributors take them, you will
know that this makes a second movie outing for the Doc on U.S. TV *very*
unlikely. Even the theoretical prospect of syndication of new shows is
not promising, for the same reason. In the eyes of the networks,
distributors and TV stations, Doctor Who proved itself to be a total
wash-out...and then, they'll argue, why should we pick up a show that
won't pull in the needed numbers?
I'll be interested to see Segal's take on this, as well as any word
from the BBC. It's not completely impossible for the entire production
to move back to England, though I wonder if that would affect emigre'
McGann's involvement. The standard of effects today, even at the Beeb
and especially with computer image processing and effects (witness RD6),
means that a new series made in Britain in '96 or '97 would not be far
behind the quality of the Fox movie, though it would probably be shot on
video.
This just isn't a banner week in Doctor Who history. 8-{

I suspect that had everything to do with it, but it still don't work. The
Tardis can't do it either. If it could have it would have shown up before.
Whole armies have died, and nobody came back to life.

A rip off! Come on. While there are similar setups for the ships existence. The
fact is well known that ST borrows from several other scifi genera for many
story lines. The White Star is a living ship, part vorlon technology. The
defiant is simply a federation ship with a cloaking device. If you look at
starships in ST the size of the ship is for long duration missions. Several
years usually. If you build a ship with limited mission range, Put the best
engines you can get on it and some new weapon designs you have the defiant. I
believe the mission duration for the defiant is only 6 months or so but I could
be wrong. And to top it all off I have found the storylines in B5 much more
entertaining and interesting than DSN9 has had to offer. This is not to say DSN9
does not have any interesting stories, just I have found B5's alittle better.

I see. What you want is a movie of young men sitting in a classroom going
