Has anyone found a source of information about the summer movie "Independence
Day?" I have read a little bit here and there and know that the plot involves
an alien invasion of the United States but beyond that I have heard very
little.

I like his movies, (didn't he do RoboCop?), but from the synopsis somebody
posted here, it sounds like a horrible butchery of the Heinlein novel. If he had
just made a movie about giant bugs invading the Earth, I wouldn't care. However,
we can always hope that the synopsis is out to lunch, and it will bear more
resemblance to the book, than just the title.

It occured to me that one reason why Heinlein conceived of the military
caste class in *Starship Troopers* came from a belief that mankind would
survive a nuclear war where disorder and lawlessness would be contained by the
veteran military of affected nations. RAH believed a all out unlimited nuclear
war was The End.
After 1971, RAH's writing deteriorated because of a circluatory system
disease impairing his brain. RAH didn't return until severarl years after his
brain surgery in 1978. After *TEFL* RAH officially disregarded his previous
theories about nuclear war comprising *Starship Troopers* or he choose to move
foreward from that era of his writing.
Any post-nuclear life would necessitate new forms of behavioral
structure to a shattered civillization that a battle tested military are
naturally trained to exhibit. If the vets restored a coherent structure
to individual nations, it would be natural for those veterans to
undertake restructure the planetary nation-state system and natural that
the civillians deed to the military their voting power.
Studies have suggested normal societial cohesion might be widely
dysfunctional even after a limited war and planetary government desirable after
a war.
There could be a change made to a *Troopers* movie in terms of changing the
nature of the war from a Terran planetary war to a interstellar war in Terra's
past where military leaders rallied humans to fight and win a significant
victory, after which the military became the leaders of that Terran Federation.
