PWC> Sorry, but AFAIK they were not "technique" failures, but rather design

As long as errors are capable of entering the equation, Nuclear power is
still extremely dangerous. TMI is now trying to cyphon (sp?) off the
radioactive wastewater that has been left behind there into the atmosphere.
Gee, just what I've always wanted. No thanks.

 RL> I don't think so!

RL> Virtual sex - does it lead to virtual families...?
RL> An interesting concept but, I think, distasteful in the extreme...

Well, I can think of instances where it wouldn't be such a bad thing. I
mean, there are people that I wouldn't mind sleeping with, but if I did, me
fiance would kill me. OTOH, in the virtual realm, ye could experiment and
nae anyone would get hurt. Only an idea. (Besides, in the same vein, ye
could possibly experiment with ideas that ye've always wanted to try but are
socially unacceptable. In this realm, what other people don't know canna
 hurt ye.)

While tripping merrily through the mail, Bianca Wesslak was overheard

BW> From a woman with an overactive imagination.
BW> Than what did happen at three mile Island?????.
TR> A leak. A very minor leak, to tell you the truth. As I've said
TR> three or four times so far, you'd get more radiation from just sitting
 TR> in the capital building.

I've been trying to resist replying to this thread for weeks, since
it's obviously off topic, but I just can't help myself any longer.

BW> Question what they going to do with all the radiactive stuff in
BW> the plant. for instance the water. If it was just a 'minor' leak
BW> why isn't it still being used. Or can they not fix that minor leak.
TR> Who? Greenpeace? ROFL! I worked for them for a while, until I
TR> discovered that they occasionally "bury" information which hurts their
 TR> causes.

One unit at Three Mile Island is still down because the cost to put the
rector back on line is more than it's worth. It's not radiation danger,
it's strictly economics. It's as if your car was wrecked in an accident,
and the insurance company says it's not worth fixing, and it'd cost you
more to haul it to the junkyard than the junkyard will pay you, so it
sits behind your garage.

The ONE MOST IMPORTANT POINT about the whole Three Mile Island incident
that everybody misses, is that it proved once and for all, how SAFE
Nuclear power really is. The worst accident that could happen, lack of
cooling and core meltdown, happened, and, outside the containment area,
radiation NEVER exceeded safe levels.

BW> No actually teachers. Some from highschool others from Upward Bound
BW> And some from college. They show me both sides of the
BW> story. They're is nothing wrong with greenpeace. They
BW> are trying their best to turn things that are negative into something
BW> positive, who are the ROFL? As for burying info which hurts their
BW> causes everyone does that, especially the major business.

Greenpeace is one of the greatest threats to our freedom there is. Their
political agenda is to control our country the way they want to control
it, and the methods they use are criminal, in fact felonious, by the
laws of every civilized nation in the world.

BW> Despite all the safe guards and etc, and despite all the energy that
BW> we can get, I'm frightened by the dangerousness nuclear energy. The
BW> energy does not even come from the split atoms. The electricity is
BW> made form steam. The steam comes from the water cooling down the core
BW> reactor. The steam turns all these doohickies, that turn turbines with
BW> magnets in them. I don't think the risk is worth it. I do not agree

You've got cause & effect turned around here a little, The reactor heats
water (just like burning coal), which is then fed through a heat exchanger
to heat more water which does not become radioactive, which runs the turbines
that create your power.

BW> either with coal or fossil fuel despite what others think. I think

Gee, last time I checked coal IS "Fossil fuel"

BW> that they're are much more safer and saner ways of getting energy.
BW> wind, solar, geothermal, and hydroelectric, like niagra falls. I don't
BW> like the though of using stuff that can level cities and leave behind
BW> destruction and death even years later. It can infilltrate ground

Wind is not reliable, geothermal is only available in a very few parts of the
world and still relies on heat creating steam, Dams for hydro destroy large
areas of the forest by creating resevoirs, (and what about the tremendous
loss of life if a Dam "breaks"), and you would not believe how many people
have had their houses burn down because of poor;y maintained solar collectors
on the roof.

BW> water if people are not careful. etc etc. We can't even handle fossil
BW> fuels without hurting the enviroment and people. To keep in topic and
BW> this is also something that has been in my mind since I read the comic
BW> book, Zealot. She was saying to one of her foes Prometheous about
BW> Nuclear energy. "Humans aren't ready to handle even something
BW> primitive as nuclear weapons." yes I know weapons aren't the same as
BW> the plants, but in my mind they are, same energy, it is a fire, and
BW> fire is a dangerous thing once out of control. It doesn't take much
BW> either to get it out of control. For me the cons outway the pros for

Fine, you are afraid of fire, you go huddle in the cold in your cave, hunt
for your food and try to keep warm in your animal skin (oh, I'm sorry, you
don't kill animals either, I guess you'll just have to live on berries
in the jungle).

BW> nuclear energy. Besides maybe just maybe we are upsetting another of
BW> earths cycles. We don't even truly understand her most basic of
BW> cycles. Things like the water, wind, food cycles.

If man was not meant to overcome nature, he would have never evolved on
this earth.
