Dresden, by the way, is the name of a city in Germany that was
destroyed during World War II by Allied bombing. The city was so
thoroughly saturated with bombs and incendiary devices (firebombs)
that a "firestorm" was begun. The heat from the flames rose, drawing
in more air from the surrounding area, which fanned the flames higher
still.... The city burned for days or weeks, and even people who
survived the bombing in underground shelters died--of suffocation or
by baking to death in the fierce heat of the fires overhead.
The city was about as thoroughly destroyed as then-current
conventional weapons could possibly accomplish. My point was that
Dresden was as thoroughly annihilated as Nagasaki or Hiroshima--and
that the dead were just as dead.

No. He is on his own. Which is one of the things I find hardest to
swallow about the show. Any real government conspiracy like this would

directed half a dozen episodes of DS9, Voyager, L&C, and a bunch of other

Possibly. Certainly *I* don't watch it. But its more likely that
if your message was one of those one or two line "Nowhere Man is cool!
Let's talk about it!" messages, it was simply ignored.
When a message like that pops up, it generally gets ignored. That
kind of opening generally indicates a newbie, and one who apparently
has little to say (else he would have gone into more detail about what
he thinks, and what he wants to talk about).

And what makes you think virtual chocolate wouldn't be a big hit?
Trust me, I'm a chocoholic. But if I could get *virtual* chocolate
(it looks, feels, smells and tastes like the real thing, but has no
substance and no calories...) I'd pay good money for it! Ditto for
virtual fried chicken and virtual pecan pies and, well, anything
that's fun but bad for you.
Come to think of it, virtual *restaurants* (serving only the
richest, tastiest and most artery-clogging, fat-producing meals) might
be a big trend, too. And it would a heck of a lot more pleasant (and
hygenic) than the decadent Roman trick of using the vomitorium....
As for virtual sex--yeah, real sex with a real loved one would be
better still (for emotional reasons, anyhow). But it beats
self-abuse, and its lots safer than frolicking with prostitutes.
Everybody likes sex (well, everybody but Paula Poundstone,
anyhow[see note, below]); if you're too ugly or asocial or busy to
find a partner, virtual sex is better than taking cold showers, eh?
Besides, the *real* fortunes would be made in letting you have your
way with virtual women you'd never, ever have a chance with in real
life.
[Note: Paula Poundstone is a comedienne who has stated that she has
virtually no interest in sex. She's never been traumatized or
anything, she just doesn't care for it. And since she's unlikely to
reproduce, this attitude represents an evolutionary dead-end, too.]
