If you allow him to continue to work you are tacitly accepting the quality

I'm not sure what you mean "Guidlines for Terminating Employees." Are you
saying you cannot fire them, or are you referring to denying them
unemployment compensation. If it's the latter, the only valid reason is
something the employee does deliberately. If a worker can't do the work
that does not mean that worker is not entitled to unemployment comp. There
are a great many reasons an employee may not be able to do the work when
he was an excellent employee previously.

But, the above scenario stil places the AIs in positions of absolute authority.
I don't because I understand, being a programmer, that all software has bugs.
Like their creators, AIs make mistakes. Only they would do it with extreme
speed and resolve. The Nebula ship are very clear about their role in
Starfleet, and there is a strict process they must follow to just relieve their
captains of duty.

Oh, I don't know, EMP charges come to mind. Failing that, a good old-fashion
power spike would do. :) I think that people don't understand that a brain, be
it electronic or biological, is most fragile.

As for a good antagonist, try a race of AIs bent on ending all life (a al Fred
Saberhagen's Berserkers). That's what is going on now in my RPG, and, without
the support of the Nebulas, the player characters would be quite dead. :)

I just saw something truly astonishing. I know it's all stunt work, but
it blew my mind regardless.

Lucy Lawless, soaking wet, clad only in her leathers, beat the snot out
of six guys, armed only with a fish.

Well, three fish, actually. On a stringer.

Talk about administering the Salmon of Correction...

TR> BK> Nothing wrong with escapist fantasy. I, however, distinguish between
TR> BK> fantasy and SF. I prefer my SF straight.

TR> Then you are watching the wrong show. It has never been "straight SF".
TR>Fantasy is a long and established genre of entertainment, and why you feel y
TR>need to put the one down in favor of the other is beyond me.

And let's not forget, just because we don't understand how it works,
doesn't mean there's not a rational explanation for it.

TR> Luck and skill have their place. Duncan trains constantly, has had, as
TR>you mentioned, four hundred years of practice, and has made close to eighty
TR>kills (as shown on the series). Methos, on the other hand, hardly ever
TR>practices, has had one kill in the last 250 years, but has 5,000+ years of
TR>accumulated power to his credit. The two are virtually equal in fighting
TR>skill.

Let's not forget cheating. Personally, I'd just shoot my opponent, and
then chop off his head while he's regenerating.

TR> BK> There is no explanation how the final victor will aquire powers
no TR> BK> immortal currently displays. Where would this new power come

from TR> BK> simply because there are no other immortals?

TR> It's magic. Live with it.

In the movies, the only power Conner seemed to display as the last
immortal that others didn't is that he got older. Not all that great
a power, though he seemed to like it. Course, he did become a god as
shown in "Mortal Combat" :>

TR> BK> Some immortals will die anyway at the hands of the normal

humans. TR> BK> Beheading has long been a method of execution. If you
cut someone's TR> BK> head off it doesn't matter who did it, he's dead.
If that were not TR> BK> true then the episode where the mentally
retarded immortal commits TR> BK> suicide by putting his head on the
train track would not work. TR> BK> How will these normal induced deaths
affect the final outcome.

TR> They won't. The last remaining get's the Prize. It doesn't matter how
TR>becomes the last.

Remember when the Watchers were introduced? The renegade group going
around executing Immortals like Darius (on holy ground yet!) IIRC, they
lamented the "lost quickening"

TR> BK> Withoug rational explanations all this becomes simply magic. If
TR> BK> you're going to allow magic, why not magicians, wizards and

warlocks TR> BK> and witches? Why not dragons and goblins, and just turn
the whole TR> BK> series into something completely different?

TR> Because that's not what the series is about. Or has this just slid pas
TR>your capabilities to comprehend.

The 3rd movie had magic. Remember all the illusions? BTW, does Conner
now have that power?

TR> BK> Do you know why your petty criticism won't hold water? Because

more TR> BK> people watch the worst episode of Star Trek than the best
episode of TR> BK> Highlander. TR> BK>> ... If you don't respect what
you are doing, don't expect anyone else TR> BK>> to.

The people I know either watch both or neither

TR> BK> ... Fatal Error: You're dead.
