That's not it, though. Not for me. When I say that her sense of
life is really depressing, I'm referring to the fact that nearly every
relationship in her fiction is antagonistic, and even the "good" ones
tend to be based on a balance of power. And virtually every novel
she's ever written consists of putting someone into an unbearable
situation from which they CANNOT escape--and then seeing how they bear
it (or fail to bear it).
Still, despite her very dark view of humanity (and of life), she's a
wonderful writer and I am also looking forward to her next novel.

 GW>
GW> I'm not sure about that, unless Sam and Al took a bunch of troops

That isn't necessarily the case. It depends on *when* Sam leaps
in, and *who* Sam possesses. He could abort the whole thing before
Gabriel ever gets his hands on Catherine. Or he could leap into one
of the armed goons guarding Catherine and find a way to help her
escape. Or he could leap into a policeman (or DA--as I recall, in the
fan-fic story, he possessed Joe, Catherine's DA pal). A cop or a DA
who figured out where she was being held *could* gather an army.

GW> What I'd MUCH prefer instead of Catherine is to have Cat's replacement

I think you're solidly in the minority on this one. And since
Linda Hamilton is supposed to be involved in the story, I don't think
it has a prayer of happening that way.

Yes, I'd heard that Peter David had done a B&B/QL cross-over. But
the one *I* saw (but didn't buy, darn it, at a convention three years

Say! That's got potential. (Or better still, they find a

world where Vincent is mourning his lost Catherine. B&B couldn't have
gotten much more lovey-dovey anyhow (though I liked it a lot, don't
