This discussion, at least, could be considered SF-related. Or
Fantasy-related, anyhow. Stephen Boyett's ARIEL: THE BOOK OF THE
CHANGE takes place on an earth where the laws of physics changed one
day. Technology (anything electrical or electronic, and guns to name
two big ones) stopped functioning--and magic became possible. Magical
monsters (griffins, unicorns, dragons) roam the land, and sorcerors
began to appear, working spells and summoning demons.

It's an excellent novel, and one I recommend to everyone.

You know--this thought never crossed my mind. But you're quite
right. B'Lanna could very easily construct a physical body for the
doctor. It shouldn't be difficult at all for her to set it up so that
he can operate it remotely (or, for that matter, for her to install an
on-board computer to run his program--less the holographic imaging).

Given the (in my opinion, quite deliberate) backwardness of the
Federation when it comes to cybernetics, I don't think they'd ever use
this knowledge to produce spare crewmen, though.

Still, building *one* robot body for the doctor would at least give
them an excuse for letting him roam the ship (or various planets).

The first edition of STAR WARS was available in late 1976, before
the movie was released. (This is why first eds. are so valuable.
Not many were sold until after the movie became successful, by which
time the second edition was already printing.)

This is correct.

I did indeed. I even looked up that word in the dictionary.

This episode really threw me for a loop. It took me quite a bit in to
the episode to figure out why Scully was been such a snot. Of course,
by the time we saw Scully smoking a cigarette and Mulder drinking a,
what, screwdriver? I had finally figured it out, mostly. It was
definately a bizzare episode!

I wouldn't call it one of the best, but it was definately good. I'm
surprised they showed it so close to "War of the Coprophages," the
most recent new one before this, which was also a laugh riot. Still,
I'm glad to see they still have their sense of humor. A lot of people
were saying earlier in this season that it wasn't as good as the last
two, but with recent episodes I'd have to disagree. It's as great as
ever!

I also liked it having female villans, something they rarely do.
There's "Eve," of course, but I can't think of any others offhand.
Oh, the demon in "Die Hand, Die Verletzt." Maybe another somewhere,
but not many. I was leery of all the teens in the episode (see
"D.P.O."), but it was pretty well done.

SR> She's cute and spunky, sorta like my first ex.

I started a Xena thread over in FIDO_FILM a few months back with the
comment that I had a "crush" on Gabrielle.

She is central to the theme of the story. In the very first episode I seem
to recall that Gabrielle wanted to be "just like Xena", but in actuality,
it was Xena who found she really wanted to be "innocent" like Gabrielle
was.

I think Gabrielle is actually the "anchor" that Xena needed to "change her
life around", and to recapture the "good" that she was looking for. Without
Gabrielle, Xena would probably revert back to the amoral mercenary she once
was.
