However, experiential testing would be required to prove that some special
dexterity or visual acuity isn't really necessary to do surgery on someone who
might have some unusual medical condition to deal with. I knew a guy who was
nearly 400 pounds in junior high. He was stabbed about 200 times. Most of the
probloem in operating on him was determining how much fatty tissue there
actually was between the surgeon and the serious parts of the wound.
Took 14 hours to finish that emergency surgery. He was about 200 pounds lighter.
In an emergency, would *you* have the endurance for a field medical stimkit's
directions to remove several hundred pounds of adipose tissue? Would *both* you
anf the patient survive?
Just curious about your feedback.

Actually, I think it was my contention that Kubrick had made some
mediocre movies that really set him off...
Really, Jack's got it right. Kubrick is a great director, when he hits
the mark. He hits the mark a lot. It's my personal contention that he's
a despicable excuse for a human being. This doesn't make him any less
talented as a director. Anyone who can pull together the talent that he
did for 2001 has earned my respect for his skills.
I just prefer my movies to have a bit more of a human touch. This is why
I like Pete Hyams' 2010 more than 2001. The characters are more
accessible. But without Kubrick and 2001, there wouldn't have been a
2010.
Can we end this mahooha now?

I would strongly suggest that you study a bit of physics. Do you even have the

Yes. And knowing the hard realities of physics helps you to make an informed

What follows is an abbreviated version of the rules for SFFAN:
Discussions of SF Fandom, Trek, Media, Who, Anime, and any literary
SF topic are "in bounds". Related technical discussions are also
allowed, but if they go too far afield, ye moderator reserves the
right to shut down the topic at any time without further warning.
Fantasy, by the by, is on topic. Keep the comments clean and above
the belt -- personal attacks are unacceptable (remember though, that
to attack an idea is NOT the same as attacking the holder of that
idea).
Commercial messages (anything that solicits money) are OFF TOPIC.
The moderator reserves the right to add new rules as the situation
demands.
Violators of rules may be warned in netmail, will be warned in the
echo, and are subject to suspension of SFFAN echomail priviledges
if they refuse to comply with the echo rules. Sysops who refuse to
police their users (or themselves) on this echo are subject to
having their feeds cut without warning -- yes, I do hold sysops to
a higher standard. A list of users and sysops on probation and
suspension is included in the detailed rules, which are posted
at roughly one month intervals.
The word of the moderator is the word of god. Once the edict is
issued, please take any further comments and/or discussions to netmail.
This is not a democracy. In the event of my disappearance of early
demise, my wife Kay Shapero will take my place. If both of us
disappear without having time to appoint an heir to the echo, you
will likely have to fight it out with the FidoNet bureaucracy...

Rules for SFFAN (Message 1 of 3)
This humble (?) individual, also known as the moderator of the SFFAN
echo, intends that this echo be used for discussions of any subject
related to SF fandom. So: Trek, Who, Anime are all acceptable topics.
Of course, any literary sf topic is obviously "in bounds". Related
technical discussions are also allowable, but try not to go off into
"my computer is better than your computer" arguments. And, oh yes, I
