Gene: Human with the an equal number of x & y
chromosomes (wasn't that Tim Thomerson???)
The Clones: Obligatory Bimbi
Janus: Quark's boss
It was set-up as a Trek parody, though they did a Star Wars
parody in the first or second episode... I think it only ran
half a season (6-13 episodes)

Sounds like he was talking about what is called the Kyshtym Disaster.
Poor waste handling techniques at the plutonium enrichment plants there led to
a chemical explosion involving radioactive wastes. The fallout plume wiped out
a few dozen villages, and ongoing ground water contamination from the plant
had done the same thing downsteam along the Techa River. So, there most likely
was an explosion involved, but not a nuclear one.

I don't know much about him personally but I have to think that a guy who
can wright and direct a major motion picture, "Full mettal jacket", completly
from his home via sattelite is both a genus and a total oddball!
On top of that he has all the plans and models from 2001 destroyed so no other
director could follow his work. HA! Also Have you ever seen a photo of our

Frank Swarbrick discussed 'Red Dwarf' with All on 05 Dec 95, 16:04:00
Hi Frank,
FS> with the first episode a few months ago. At first I thought it was
FS> really stupid, and while it still is... it's still a lot of fun. The
FS> most recent episode I saw was "Stasis Leak" and man, it was a riot!!!
FS> I was ROTF when Cat attacked that woman's fur shawl!!!
The laughter frequency increases every next series, IMHO. When I was
introduced to Red Dwarf, they showed series III. It was great, and only
after series V, the video tapes of the first four series were released.
I must admit that, at first, series I was slightly disappointing.
FS> Anyway, I am wondering if my station is not showing them quite in
FS> order. I saw "Kryten" about three or four episodes ago, but he hasn't
FS> been seen since. Is "Kryten" before or after "Stasis Leak"? Better
FS> yet, can someone post all the episodes in order?
I think the order your station is showing the shows is correct. Especially
the first series seems a random collection of episodes. I strongly
recommend the books 'Red Dwarf' and 'Better Than Life', or ("with
unmissable new material"), the 'Red Dwarf Omnibus' (Penguin, ISBN
0-14-017466-4). The book is written by Grant Naylor, i.e. Rob Grant and
Doug Naylor. Many bookstore people don't know they're two people, so check
under 'N' as well. (The "unmissable new material" consists of a 'Backword';
'The Beer Mat' on which the first ideas were written; 'Dave Hollins - Space
Cadet', a transcribed radio show, and the 'Red Dwarf Pilot Script'.)
The book tells the story in chronological order. Also, the series to come
(for you, that is) will show a more (chrono)logical order. Series VI is
one long story divided into six episodes, with the promising "To be
continued..." after the sixth. Still waiting for series VII...
Need any info on vids (PAL only, I'm afraid) and boox, let me know.
Greets,
Jerry Van Kooten

Hello Jerry!
Sunday December 10 1995, Jerry Van Kooten writes to Frank Swarbrick:

You're view is opposite to mine, at first I liked Red Dwarf, but with the later
series it became less and less, funny how people can disagree on those things.

[hot Klingon make-up]
JH> I can only imagine at this point. 'Though I have had a couple of
JH> people give me pointers about how to keep cooler and dryer while
JH> wearing them.
I'ld like to hear those. I want to get Cardassian make-up, and could
probably use those pointers for it, too.
JH> Oh...That makes it much easier then...'though I don't misplace things
JH> so much now as I used to. I think it comes from having children and
JH> having to keep track of their stuff as well as my own.
I gotta keep track of my cat's stuff, he 'misplaces' everything not
nailed down.
[cons]
JH> Been there, done that...had a wonderful time.
I miss the big cons. Went to a smaller one a couple of weeks ago, in
Scheveningen. It wasn't a big one, and it wasn't specifically Trek,
but it was lots of fun. We had just over a hunderd people, in a small
hotel, filled it up... Stayed up most of the first two nights, and
then after the con stayed until Monday morning, I really don't know
why we had a room that night, we only slept a couple of hours. Then I
had classes that monday night at 19:45-21:45. I really picked up a
lot that time.
We got a really neat idea for next year, we wanna run a con the wrong
way around. We had the last meeting that night, and we would have
been having it next year, then we eventually had have been holding
the first meeting in another year. Get twisted around talking about
it. Anyway, it will have been lots of fun, if we don't/didn't get all
mixed up in the time table...
Greetx,
Myranya.
