As a matter of fact, the B5 comic has gotten a reprieve and will be

DC to increase sales.
I guess all those nasty phone calls to DC do some good after all. ;)

No, Trek *IS* relevant since a lot of JMS's views are a direct
consequence of how Paramount has handled Trek. In fact, it seems to me
that I've posted articles from him on exactly this topic, agreeing with
me.
But I doubt you would ever bother stooping to the truth.

No, it is the truth. The third season of B5 starts on November 1, 1995
(I don't remember if it is officially the week of October 25 or November
5, since the 1st falls on a Wednesday). By definition, anything that is
shown prior to this week falls in *THE SECOND SEASON* which is exactly
when the last four episodes are being shown. You might not like the
fact that they are being held off and neither do I, but while we're
being pissed off, we might as well be accurate about it.

FG> Umm, I give Defiant-class ships more credit than Brian does too (at
FG> least until he says just *what* is poorly designed about them), but
FG> let's not get carried away. In a fair fight (that is, no suprises,
FG> just duking it out), *one* Defiant won't last against a
FG> Galaxy-class.
No offense, but I'm looking at the situation logically (something that
seems to be a dirty word in the Star Trek universe).
Let's look at the time and circumstances that the Defiant was built. A
single Borg ship had just destroyed most of Starfleet (duh, why didn't
the Borg send more ships? It's not like they would have had any
challenge taking over Earth...) The Federation was building the first
dedicated warships (forgetting that the original Enterprise was a
bleeding heavy cruiser, built and intended for conflict). Are we
supposed to believe that they are going to build ships that are inferior
to those (few) that currently exist? It *MUST* have been more powerful
than the Enterprise-D (borne out by the fact that the Defiant survived
while a Galaxy-class ship was blown to smithereens).
Therefore, if we assume that it was at least as powerful as a Galaxy-
class starship, while being much smaller and much more maneuverable, we
have to wonder why it has been so completely outmatched by everything it
has ever encountered. If it is so easily outclassed, why does the
Federation not have a fleet assembled at DS9 as a deterrent against
Dominion attack? Having a fleet hidden somewhere is ridiculous. Once
the Dominion comes through and destroys DS9 and Bajor (which the
Federation is supposed to be protecting), it's a little late to say "Oh,
yeah, we have this fleet over here."
Sheesh.

JH> Considering how little of a Trek watcher you are, I'll have to ask
JH> you to explain your reasons for thinking so. I thought you didn't
JH> watch Trek... so did you base your opinion on watching the episodes
JH> in question, or on secondhand commentary tossed around here?
I do try to watch season finales (which is how I saw the Defiant in the
first place), as well as 4-5 episodes per season, mostly when I think my
stomach can take it again. It isn't that I have some irrational hatred
of Trek, it is that Trek just makes me ill.
As a matter of fact, I did see the season finale last year. Is there
anyone who could not predict that the Changelings ran the Dominion after
maybe 20 minutes of the finale? Or who didn't know for a fact that the
crew of the Defiant was in a holosuite? It was a joke.
Other than that, the Defiant was defined as a failed Federation
experimental warship. Granted, they did have a reason to build one
after the botched Borg attack, but for a ship that was supposed to be
incredibly powerful, it got taken right away By the Dominion. Some
great ship, eh? For a ship that should, by all rights, be more powerful
than the Enterprise-D, it didn't do diddly.
JH> This kind of thing is what makes me doubt you know what you're
JH> talking about here. The controllers of the Dominion *are* the
JH> Changelings, same as Odo. And as has been explained several times,
