You're in luck, Robert, someone made a TV series just for you. One
of the premises is that, in the future, food, shelter and the other
necessities of life will be equally available to all through
convenient technology, so that mankind can explore the cosmos while
ever improving in bravery, diplomacy and the arts. If you're lucky,
you might even be able to catch a rerun of this series. It was
called Star Trek.

Mark, the transporter/replicator system CAN replicate people.
After the Sanctuary riots, things actually got much, much worse.
A small group of very wealthy individuals funded the original
replicator research projects, acidentally inventing the transporter
in the process. When WWIII massively depopulated the Earth, this
group (those rich enough to get through anything) used replicator
technology to provide a large population of "their kind of people."
Before doing so, they modified the energy to matter conversion
process so that the energy stream was filtered, to remove two
attributes from anybody transported: first, the ability to reason
that the technology could replicate people (passing through a
Starfleet transporter simply "rewires" that portion of the brain
necessary for that operation); and second, the desire to act as an
individual when liberty might conflict with the continued existence
of a large number of mediocre people suitable for the beauracratic
class. These modifications were designed into the basic circuitry
for the transporter system, and the circuit was later modified to
become the "bio-filter." Before the repopulation project began, all
mentions, records, and plans of transporter technology that would
not perform this mental filtering were destroyed. This explains
that blandly homogoenous attributes of Starfleet officers, and of
all Federation people who have ever been sent through a
Federation transporter.
During the Repopulation, history was rewritten - with forged
evidence and planted false memories - that the Sanctuary
Riots shocked the public at large into voting for a new Golden Age.
Picture the Earth remade in the image of the City Club of Portland,
New York's Upper East Side summer-at-the-Hamptons class, Swiss
bankers, and the CFR. Pretty close to the Federation government,
eh?
Other people routinely use the transporter as an immortality machine
and a handy means of cloning. However, as Starfleet personnel are
biologically incapable of understanding those concepts, their minds
interpret evidence of those activities as something else. Sometimes
the concepts that are invented to explain these transporter
activites are ludicrous, but Federation personnel are as oblivious
to the logical inconsistencies in these stories as a color-blind
person is to the inappropriateness of their green and brown painting
of a sunset.

You're nephew is an exception. There are several kids around here in
the 15-under crowd that are becoming the new generation of Star Wars fans.
That, and the fans who saw it the first time will see them again, just to
relive those days of yesteryear! My oldest son, who is now 5, can't get enough
of it, and I found my youngest, who is 3, playing out the 3 lightsaber battles
the other day. I have, of course, several other movies that they can watch
and sometimes they do. But, they almost always want to watch Star Wars. Wife
has even threatened to cut the tapes if they watch it again.
At any rate, I still find it improbable that there will be no new
films.

I know that the Klingons will be a huge problem. But they really should not be.
Look at all those new a super powerful ships build after wolf 359. The Intrepid
class, the Nebula class and the Defiant! It could take on a small fleet of
Klingons ships and with Sisko at the helm it would most likely win.

I don't expect it to be new episodes, but I'll have a tape ready just in case...
