can't be right or wrong...they just *are*. And try to separate
the person from the opinion. You may feel that a person's
*opinion* is stupid, but please don't call the *person*
stupid. I'm sure that we're all mature enough to find a more
diplomatic way to say things.

Flaming will result in a warning from me. Further infractions
will result in removal from the list.

and...

2) *NO* posting of copyrighted materials!!!! (unless you hav
permission, of course) Believe me...it's not worth the trouble
it can cause. Having been a victim of the _Star Trek:
Generations_ script fiasco...and subsequently Paramount, I can
personally attest to the fact that getting involved with
copyright violations can get nasty. And I don't want this
list to end up on the cutting-edge of net-law.

Posting of copyrighted material will result in a *strong* warning
from me. And, depending on the nature of the violation, possible
removal from the list *without* further infractions. When in
doubt *ask* me. If I say no...then don't post it. If I say
yes...fine. Then if there's any problem, it's on *my* head and
the list will be spared.

Those are the only two hard and fast rules. Everything else is
sorta kinda flexible...but I always have the final say.

Try to stay on topic...but if you think about it, that covers a
lot of ground. If you absolutely, positively *have* to post
something off topic, to insert an OBE2 (Obligatory Earth2
comment). On occasion, there may be something that you're so
excited about or a bit of personal news that you just can't
contain and you'll feel the irrisistable urge to post
it. I hope that we'll all be friends, so we'll probably be
interested. An OBE2 will help pacify those that *aren't*
interested. I'm sure that we can all think of something
thoughtful to say about the series at any given moment (I know
*I* can :-) ). If a thread wanders off topic for *too* long,
I'll kill it...but I try to let them die a natural death
whenever possible.

If a thread gets beaten to death...I reserve the right to kill it
*after* a sufficient number of list members has complained to me
either on-list or privately (if you don't want to complain
on-list). However, I'm not going to let any one person dictate
when a topical thread should be killed, myself included.

In short, I'll try to keep my hands off as much as
possible...just keep in mind that I'm always here. But, hey! I
wanna have fun too, so I'm gonna try to not make this feel like
work for myself (been there...done that...don't like it...)

Remember, if you have any problems, questions or concerns about
the list, feel free to contact me and I'll get back to you as
soon as possible.

Hats off to the Shaperos, Nicolai and Kay, for this fine Fidonet group. I've
been recruiting others to join in and commenting on the QUALITY of the
messages. To tell you the truth, even one example gets the point across.
Compare the comments on, say, The X-Files here and those on the X-Files
interest group on the Internet. SFFAN comments win hands down!

As far as I know, the Shaperos moderate this group and their great example
seems to embue the interactions with a sense of CLASS not often emulated
elsewhere.

Criticism is so EASY to shell out but once in a while I think it's good to give
credit where it is due!

Cheers,

Robert Lidgren

PS. No, they didn't pay me to say this (heh, heh).

-> Harlan is supposed to show up at DragonCon in July (Atlanta, GA) I'll try to
-> remember to ask him when I get up to him in the autograph line. Hope you can
-> wait 6 more weeks!!

Do fill me in on Harlan's appearance. I've corresponded with him and his wife,
Susan Ellison, and read his books. I haven't seen him live ever!

By the way, I received from Harlan this week my CD copy of his Palladin of the
Lost Hour. It's a damn fine recording!! The liner notes are terrific. By the
way, I've been waiting for this recording for more than 5 years!

If you want details about how to get the album, drop me a message.

I couldn't help but reply to your message to Nicolai Shapero.

I just received in the mail this week the CD recording of Harlan's Palladin of
the Lost Hour. It really is excellent.

The liner notes booklet gives details about the various incarnation of the
story including that version on The Twilight Zone. Originally, Harlan did not
want Danny Kaye to play the part. In the role of Gaspar, he had a list of FOUR
choices:
Hume Cronyn
Bud Merideth
James Whitmore
Jack Gilford

He wrote the story from December 10th to December 12th 1984 (according to the
insert).

So, although Harlan may be notorious for delays, he is also capable of writing
stories with incredible power and lasting impact in a cery short time too.

By the way, if you want the CD or would like to join The Harlan Ellison Record
Collection, here is the address:

THE HARLAN ELLISON RECORD COLLECTION
P. O. BOX 55548
SHERMAN OAKS, CALIFORNIA
91413

Membership is just $8.00 (check or money order) and for that you get four
issues of The Rabbit Hole and access to recordings of Harlan's stories by the
author. Susan Ellison runs the business and she is an absolute delight! Class
incarnate! He was very fortunate to have found such a terrific lady!

I've been on board since issue #1 of Rabbit Hole and find the material to be
rivetting.

One time I wrote a letter to Harlan via The Harlan Ellison Record Collection
commenting on one of his Asimov's Science Fiction columns. He was kind enogh
to give me a phone call.

By the way, to get a pyrotechnic rise out of Harlan at a convention, ask how he
enjoyed working on the TV series "The Starlost." Better stand back, though, as
the rejoined will be caustic but hellishly amusing too.

Cheers,

>> "As close as I could figure out

Connor=Duncan. I guessed they changed the name when it became a series. If
you saw the first movie, Connor has had alot of ID (ex. Russel Nash)."

yes, Louis, it's true that connor had a lot of aliases, but he definitely is NOT
duncan.

i don't know how much you watch the series, but in the initial show, connor
appears WITH duncan, and their relationship is explained as the immortal
"mentor/mentee" relationship, similiar to what duncan eventually cultivates with
richie.

as a matter of fact, in a recent episode duncan says "I don't know what i would
have done (or been like - i actually don't remember the quote word for word) if
connor macleod hadn't found me" - again emphasizing that they are two separate
charactors - so that at least, in some ways, the series attempts to thread the
two storylines together.

although, as has been discussed earlier on this echo, they have divirged quite a
bit, and now it is confusing to try and make the two storylines converge as if
they take place in the same universe/reality zone.

so you like connor's character better? of is it the actor christopher lambert
that you prefer?

i admit that my stronger attraction to adrian paul may well be because the
television series is longer playing that the three movies put together, and
since i like the mythos so much, i want as much as i can get.

actually, my overall favorite immortal was sean connery's rameriz (i know i
spelled that wrong - sorry).

good talking to you.

i hope i didn't come off as "correcting," but thought i'd pass on what someone
had explained to me about the differences between the two charactor/actor(s).

seeYAaround,

Pam

thanks for the info on spoiler alerts Mark.

I won't make that mistake again.

my apologies to all to whom i inadvertantly gave away crucial plot information.

one more question - i recently read that 2 1/2 weeks is the longest an episode
takes to air coast to coast, so after that time, spoilers are no longer
necessary?

is that an accurate piece of info?

should i worry about overseas people who may not get the latest shows as soon as
we do? (on the other hand, perhaps they get them sooner?)

thanks for your help.
