VN> Well, as a staunch science fiction fan ever since
VN> I could read, I'm a little embarrassed to bring THIS
VN> one up as it isn't strictly science fiction...but
VN> does/did anyone else out there watch "Forever Knight"?

BG> Oh, absolutely! The SciFi channel runs it on Monday
BG> nights, and I catch it every change I can.

VN> Oh, THANK GOD! I was stunned a few weeks ago when they killed
VN> off Vachon, actually it RUINED my WHOLE WEEK! I made about a dozen
VN> long-distance phone calls to various and sundry places to protest,
VN> finally got James Parriott's office in, I believe, North Hollywood, and
VN> the secretary informed me that they had finished shooting the last
VN> episode a few months ago...and to be prepared for even more closure the
 VN> next episode.
VN> Damn it! All I need to do is like a show; look what happened to
VN> Star Trek and Picket Fences. Forever Knight is on here Saturday nights
VN> at 11:30 pm,sandwiched in between Sightings and The Extraordinary.

VN> The secretary said it was filmed for three years, but I haven't
VN> seen three years' worth of episodes, have you? They just started over
VN> again here and I started taping this time...with the two part "Black
VN> Buddha" which, ironically, was the first episode I ever saw. I assume
 VN> it was the pilot.

VN> Any idea what Ben Bass is doing now? Jeez, he was the #1 reason
 VN> I watch it!

Nope, "Black Buddah" was the season premier of the third season.
Don't you remember Nick's angst about losing Schanke (his partner) and
Cohen (his boss) in that plane crash?

Anyway, FK has been around for quite a while. It began as a pilot /
movie called "Nick Knight" in 1989, with (if you can believe it) Rick
Springfield as Nick! His partner was Don Schanke, played by the same
person who played Schanke in the series. LaCroix was there, played by
a different actor, as was Jeanette (a character from previous
seasons), also played by a different person. Nick's friend the
coroner was a man in this one.

This was followed by a new pilot in 1992, renamed "Dark Knight," and
the series became Forever Knight. Nick and the others (except
Schanke) were recast with new actors and it became a series that aired
on CBS's "Crime Time After Prime Time." The CTAPT was cancelled when
CBS got Letterman, but Forever Knight went into first run syndication
for it's second season, 1994-1995.

Myself, I began watching it part way through the second season. With
repeats I'm fairly certain I managed to see all the second season
episodes. I've never seen any first season episodes at all, though I
did manage to catch the Nick Knight movie on Lifetime Cable. It
wasn't very good, imho.

The SciFi Channel is supposed to show the first and second seasons at
some point, but not perhaps until 1997. Can't wait! The only things
I've season from season one were the flashbacks in "Last Knight."
Nick looked pretty "tuff" back then! Leather jacket, really butch
hair. Interesting.

Well,

This has by far got to be the best Sci Fi TV Show that I have seen in a long
time and I hope that it does NOT get cancelled!

It is very well done and is not a "clean" Science Fiction as many others
are. It reminds me of the Aliens movies in a way but is unique in its own
rights.

The two part show that revealed the Chigs Identity was excellent but I think
that they may have jumped the gun as was done with BattleStar Galactica
previously. I am afraid that they may have helped kill themselves in the
long run even though they have left a lot of "open" ends...(Wang,
Damphousse & Vansen, McQueen, etc).

I'm afraid I agree with the "Decline" phrase. The writing for Colin
Baker's Doctor was not worth beans. I liked his character, but the stories
they threw him in were not in the best of quality. Even that ridiculous
"Trial" was a waste of airtime.
As for McCoy's series, there's only two I liked..."The Hand of Omega"
and "The White Tower"

Even in the dark ages there was actually significant scientific
advancement. In every case I see the actual flowering of culture seems to
be attached to an increase in communication with outside cultures. Seems
to me access to an interstellar society of vastly different cultures
should result in an explosion of knowledge.

That, BTW, is my objection to the "Prime Directive" as adhered to by ST in
all it's incarnations. Essentially it would tend to stifle learning and
development. Esp for those considered "Inferior."
