we thought the ep's writers were trying to tell us something. WERE they??

I think both of you are really overestimating the impact The Internet and
online services have right now. Yes, it is "The Coming Thing" and yes there
are a lot of people online right now, but it represents less than five
percent of the U.S. population. (I'm not pulling this figure from thin air.
This was in a survey a few weeks ago). That five percent includes those
people who are online only to pick up personal mail and don't mess around in
message bases or newsgroups (which represents something like 50 percent of
the previous figure) and those people who only play games and also includes
some services known tendency to manipulate subscription numbers and also
includes those who are active in newsgroups but don't read the B5, ST or SF
areas.

There were probably more people who sampled Babylon 5 from seeing Jerry
(Garibaldi) Doyle on Breakfast Time on the FX network than those who were
influenced to watch it from reading posted messages.

Straczinski has for the most part promoted his show in a fairly subdued
fashion. Although he isn't afraid of shameless plugs. And he shouldn't be
afraid to do so. This is HIS show, which he fought to get on the air and
continues to struggle to keep it on the air.

Sometimes he does criticize Trek, but usually it's from a true critical
standpoint, and not because he is trashing Trek. Most (not all) of what I've
read of his criticisms of Trek have been outgrowths from what I would
consider unfair B5 bashing from Trek fans. He's also said good things about
all the Trek series at one time or another, as well as X-Files, American
Gothic, Space: Above and Beyond and other shows. He's also been critical of
B5 when he felt the show fell below his standards.

I think JMS online is a nifty thing, and more creators should be as easily
available as he is. While I read his messages with great interest, I don't
allow them to influence me to a large degree. He is no God. Ultimately
what's important is what shows up on the TV screen. If it's good stuff then
it's Good Stuff. If it blows, well then, it blows.

sorry to but in but i have to disagree.
1. we will not be able to go very far on large tanks of fuel
2. Nuclear power is extremely dangerous, and it kinda leaves radiation
behind.
3. this is the future, why limit it? Most sci-fi stuff is omens of what
is to come, even if it may take centuries. Look at the guy who wrote
20,000 leagues under the sea. nuclear subs, and periscopes hadn't been
invented yet. Besides if nothing else it gives the inventors something to
dream about, with them dreaming and trying to come up with it, and getting
some rough ideas it just might come into being.

Rumour has had it for some months now that Amblin is going to be doing the new
adventures of the Doctor, with Eric Idle in the lead. Problem is, like so much
of what H'Wood does, it's just balloon juice until it actually gets before the
cameras, and sometimes even then...

I've heard stories for years about Brian Blessed as the Doctor, Eric Idle,
Patrick Stewart, this actor, that actor... Christ, I heard somebody say that Mel
Gibson was up for the role! All I'm saying is, look for it when ya see it
comin'...

This ain't DALLAS, dude... thank Ghod and Saint Joe...

But we've seen the station go out in a blaze of glory already, in Lady Ladira's
vision. The question is, when?

Sinclair's supposed to be back this season to go get Babylon 4... and if I
remember Mark Holtz' last post, there's a buncha other stuff that's gonna hit
this season...
