While this is certainly very interesting, what does it have to do

siamese twins at the time that George went to Japan?
Your basic premise is that folks most commonly lift plots from
contemporary material. This premise cannot be adequately proven in
most instances, and I would imagine cannot be proven where B5 is
involved.
Parallel development: yeah, I believe that. Limited number of
basic, epic style plots to work with: yeah, I believe that.
Everybody's mimicing anime: sorry, I'm not convinced, nor will I
ever likely be.

And none of those plots or plot elements *pre-date* anime? No,
clearly anime invented all which is good in epic SF these days.
Funny, I remember hearing the exact same argument applied to Star
Trek.

To followup those two messages about lifting from anime that I just

posted to rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5 on Usenet after yet more clue-void
people posted junk about how JMS is rewriting Lord of the Rings, and
various other books.

No, I've never read them. "I am wondering if they had any relation
to B5." No, because that is called plagiarism.
I'm not yelling at you, James, I'm just taking a moment here to make
a general comment.
Ahem. To everyone looking on.
STOP ASKING ME IF I AM DOING ONE BOOK OR ANOTHER BY ANOTHER WRITER.
That is called plagiarism. It's called theft. It's not a question
that novel writers get, only TV writers. I know that's not your intent,
but that's what it is. I didn't fight for five years to make this show to
do somebody else's story. This is its own story. Nobody else's. It may
not occur to you -- likely does not -- but this is a *supremely* offensive
comment to any writer. It implies that one cannot come up with one's own
story, one has to borrow or rip off from somebody else...again, a comment
usually directed toward TV writers. I've never seen a novelist asked if
he was doing somebody else's novel.
I may sometimes nod in tribute to those works that have come before,
but that's all it ever is.

Okay, I've just read a bunch more of these...okay, I admit it, you
got me...I'm doing Philip K. Dick right down the line...and I'm also
doing George Orwell right down the line...and I'm doing Lord of the
Rings beat for beat...and Chalker...and...and Cherryh...and I'm doing
a variation on the Bible, and King Arthur, and the history of Babylon,
and the Idylls of the King....
What? What's that you say? You can't be doing all of these right
down the line, all at the same time? Sure I can. Because there IS no
B5. There's a blank signal that registers in your brain, triggering the
last thing you read, or the most important thing you read. It's a
carefully rigged US Government psychological warfare experiment.
I give up.

Shawn,
Perhaps with everyone in the Continuum except Amanda Rogers (and very
probably Trellane) named Q, you are mildly confused about this trial. It
is not our Q (nor Q2 (Corbin Bernsen)) who is being tried. It is another
Q, (played by Gerritt Graham (can we say "Stan Putterman", boys and
girls?)) who is going to be on trial when he requests asylum so he can
kill himself (if he gets to become human, how much you want to bet that
dear ol' Captain Janeway tries to force him to not take his own life. If
he does get permission to end it all, will they have a holo-Kevorkian
assist him?) because he's tired of immortality because he's utterly
bored. (He should go chasing after his little brother for a bit. That
would keep him from being bored. If this new Q wants to die so badly all
he has to do is take credit somewhere for something our Q did and sooner
or later someone'll show up to kill him!

Well they have not returned to any government/FBI stuff since the season openers
and I think this parade of freaks is getting old. You can really see with these
re-runs that one of the shows major pluses is the relationship between Mulder
and Scully (which has been pretty strictly avoided since premier) and the whole
government involvement which is always great.
I think that they may have written themselves into a bit of a hole that will
take real work to get out of. But seeing the dynamic duo back at headquarters
would be very cool. Also, I love seeing "other" FBI guys and their attitude
towards x-files and Mulder, etc. That was very interesting in the first Tooms
episode.
I still like the episodes we have seen and think it is the number one best show
on tv these days.

A big deal was made about allegedly vanishing nurses at Roswell. More

characters from a 1950s science fiction movie, and thus deserved a lot
of attention.
