The nature of the nexus, in fact would have allowed Picard and Kirk, if TPTB
had wished it so, to go anywhere and anywhen and prevented *everything*
having to do with Soren, or at the very least, in the movie prevented. In
fact, they still could, since time has no meaning in the nexus. They could
have stayed, and enjoyed their stay, and in fact, still are, from our point
of view *in* the nexus. That's what I really didn't get, none of the movie
makes sense... ;)

While the low gravity would reduce the pressure, it would not

It would just be a problem of how to get enough atmospheric density.

Not true. They didn't have horrificly advanced sciences. They just had

I'm beginning to believe that Chris simply cannot help it. He's not
a Dixon or a Wolgast (who are insulting and unpleasant on purpose), but rather
is obtuse, ignorant, and offensive by way of an accident of genetics. He
is this way by nature, not by design, and cannot help himself.

It's nice to see Sliders is back! Last week's episode, featuring the
alternate world where men were in short supply, was handled fairly well. I
especially liked the fact that things were left a bit ambiguous w.r.t. whether
or not the characters did help out in the re-population project. It also
reminded me of the angst experienced by couples in the here-and-now who
desparately want children but, for medical reasons, are incapable of having
them the old fashioned way.
The ethical dilemnas were brought up. I especially liked the statement
by Quinn Malory that he didn't want to "father" a child and then not be around
to be a parent. What a refreshing change form the "love them and leave them"
approach which is seen TOO OFTEN.
I am not certain whether Arturo obliged and "helped out" but even his
attitude showed a degree of responsibility which is, I suppose, 180 degrees
away from, say, what James Bond would do in similar circumstances. I think his
expression was something like: "Oh my God!" when faced with having sex with his
female "guard," quite against his will. Being an occupant of such a "stud
farm" environment demonstrated that it would not be quite the Nirvana many
adolescents might imagine. But then, maybe one needs a bit of maturity and
life experience to see why this alternate world wouldn't be EVERYMAN'S cup of
tea.
It is a delight to see all of the original cast is back. BTW, my son
felt the first episode was very sad. I queried him about it and what made him
very sad was the fact that the crew did make it home momnetarily but made the
mistake of misinterpreting the "signs" and then "sliding" once more. For a
young man, I guess the thought of being separated from his family and friends
isn't necessarily appealing ad infinitim.
At any rate, it's good to see the "Sliders" cast back in action and
also delightful to see the scripts still do delve into some complicated issues
with a bit of "class" as well as the Sliders hallmark of good fun.
BTW #2: Did you notice how QUICKLY Quinn got over his bullet wound? I
wonder if "sliding" enhances the healing process?
Cheers, - Rob
