to watch the next episode. :>

Sad to see...the Cardassians aren't really that *imposing* to me,
ever since they were introduced....and the Romulans...well gotta
admit it here...ever since TNG, I have never liked their costumes...
you can't take a dude seriously when he's wearing what looks like
a potatoe sack for a shirt! The Klingons were always a true
Warrior caste, based on a combination of American Indian heritage
and a Kzin society....but since they teamed up with the Federation
something has changed...and it's a change I don't like! Borg...
we got Win95 for them....they pretty much have been neutralized as
a viable threat.
Even the guys who work for the Dominian....names escapes me, haven't
filled this niche! We need a truly Predator/Kzin/Alien type race
that will really kick some Federation butt!!
KW> Saw the next episode V'ger previews....heart beat when up when I

CL> I kinda liked it....I thought the computer arguing with itself was
CL> pretty funny. The next one is the one that I think will be
CL> interesting....The return of Q and all...And Jonathan Frakes is
CL> appearing too....
Even I might watch this episode on Monday. I've never liked Q, myself.
Think the writers made a big mistake with this character. Never, ever
have a 'Superman' type character on the show!!! The only way to have
interesting plots that don't repeat themselves endlessly is to remove
his powers..and then he's no longer Q! And if he keeps his powers,
then it's just a rehashed story! Stupid move to have come up with this
guy!
If Q appears on V'ger...then why isn't the show finished then?? He
simply pops them back to Fed space and everyone goes home. This won't
happen, of course....but I bet you the reasons this doesn't take place
won't be satisfactory. Therefore, once again, it'll prove that this
character just doesn't work as a viable plot device.

John, I opened my mail and saw this surprise,
A lovely and witty poem did assault my eyes.
Sweet music sounds neat,

Hi Barton,
Until one remembers the society restraints at the time Gene first
produced ST, and the flack he got over a female Number One?
Another thing that everyone seems to have forgotten is the number
of female Admirals in Starfleet....especially in TNG. It seemed for
a while there that you HAD to be female to be an admiral!!
And one supposes....in order to become an Admiral, one had to spend
a certain amount of time as a Captain first. So I suppose there are
a heck of alot of female captains sitting in the 'big chair' on
Star ships out there, behind the scenes.

I know the feeling. I don't think I could wade through Lord Of The
Rings again, though I really enjoyed it at the time.
So--who else *do* you dump on? I'll show you mine....
Alan Dean Foster, as I already mentioned. I used to read his
stuff, but I don't any longer. He lost me when he published
SPELLSINGER and I just never went back.
C. J. Cherryh. By all accounts she is popular with both the
critics and the public. Which probably means that she's a good
writer. And certainly what I know of her stories *sounds* good. But
I've tried many times to read some of her stuff and I just can't. It
feels like hacking my way through the jungle with a machete (it was,
in fact, her writing that led me to that description).
Stephen R. Donaldson. I don't read his stuff. I *never* read his
stuff. So while it may seem that I'm breaking a cardinal rule--never
review a book you haven't read--plenty of friends have panned his
writing. And these are friends with tastes I a) know, and b) agree
with; I feel no need to burn myself on that oven just to be *sure* it
will burn me. [Sadly, these friends all say he writes very well--its
just that his "heroes" are pathetic creatures who invariably lack a
backbone.]

The conference is meant for discussion of all facets of SF (unless
they're ruled off-topic by Nicolai), including cybersex.
One can discuss sex without being a lonely boy, you know. The
possibility of virtual sex is a perfectly plausible idea, and one that
*does* have a connection to SF. The film BRAINSTORM (from the 70's),
for instance, played with the notion.
Discussing it is only boring if you're not interested in how it
