Yes but the problen is the adventure can only take place on that ship.
Character interaction outside the confines of the ship is imposible because
of the time problem. As for trade at relativistic speed, we should look back at
the old Ducth East India Co. Each ship that is sent is a big deal and carries
vast quantities of preshious goods. Most definatly finished products such as
art (especialy alien art and artifacts), unique textiles and preshious gems and
high tec goods. Of course the ships will be huge to offset the fact that very
get in and out of port very often. The companys would be powers untothemselves
like the Dutch East India.

Mark was heard putting a contract on All because of SAAB: Propulsion Systems!
MD> I am reffering to the Oct. 8 episode (the one before last--sorry, I
MD> didn't catch the title).
MD> The cargo craft uses a nuclear propulsion system (I cite the numerous
MD> refrences to technology currently in use, ie. control rods, feul
MD> cells, ect.)
MD> Using the refrences given, it sounded like the writers took a tour of
MD> a nuclear power plant, in particular a MHTGR or IFR type reactor
MD> system.
MD> Now, first of all, I wonder how propulsion was achieved with nuclear
MD> fission. As you may or may not know, nuclear power production is
MD> really just a very fancy steam-turbine system. I can see a pulse-type
MD> propulsion, matter-antimatter conversion, fussion-generated plasma
MD> propulsion--but I'm at a loss how one would go about making a ship
MD> move using fission power. That piddling little core we saw in that
MD> episode might generate about 100kW or so.
Workable but by no means practical. For a fission reactor to be used as
a propulsion system you take two large tubes and fill the space betwen with
uranium pellets and then force liqued hydrogen through them causing the
hudrogen to become superheated and forcing it out the back. The idea was being
worked on by the US Air Force in the mid '70s and produced 50% better thrust
than conventional rockets. Of course the steam would be fantasticly radioactive!
MD> Which brings me to my next question--how the hell do you use Helium-3
MD> in a fission reactor? Aside from a coolant in the MHTGR (Modular High
MD> Tempature Gas-cooled Reactor) system, I can see no use for it, and
MD> certainly cannot justify the evident importance placed on it.
You got me there!};> Especialy the size of the container was that of a large
thermous. If there is somthing we have in abundance in the universe is helium.

Au contraire, mon ami. Kubrick is still alive, and has a film in the cooker even
as we speak. It's called A.I. and is due out next year sometime, barring
complications. Rumour mill has it that Kubrick has known about his property for
some years, but was waiting for the technology to make it possible.
It occurs to me that with the advances in CGI, it's now possible to do a decent
film adaptation of Alfie Bester's THE STARS MY DESTINATION... please, God...
> As for THE SHINING, I didn't much care for it, either.
Did anybody? I mean, it wasn't bad, but it also wasn't Steve's book, either.
I'll never admit it around Steve, but I actually enjoyed bits of it...

Since it's a "syndicated" show now, it could be any time, you'll have
to call your local stations if you don't wanna dig through the paper.
(FWIW, here in Beertown it's aired occasionaly (alternating with
episodes of "Xena") on Wednsday nights at 7:00 PM central time on
the "independent" station that's owned by the UPN station.

nights at 7:00 P.M. Central.

It's quite simple, really. They use a Dean Drive. The fission plant
spins a rotor, and the Dean Drive converts the rotary energy into
linear motion! They're flying through space on the world's biggest
electric drill motor!
